V Hotel Lavender is a large 888-room high rise property with cosy, modern creature comforts aimed predominantly at the leisure market. Standout feature is the fourth floor Sky Terrace which houses the hotel’s leisure amenities including an impressive pool, gym and al fresco diner surrounded by lush greenery. It is located a short distance from the city’s commercial centre but well connected by MRT and public buses right on the doorstep.
As the name suggests, the hotel is a little way outside Singapore’s main business hub but you don’t miss out on anything, and in many ways, the location offers a more colourful Singaporean experience. A short walk will bring you to the Kampong Glam ethnic Malay village and the vibrant night markets of Bugis. Getting to and from the airport is a breeze too. It takes just 20 minutes to reach Lavender MRT station, situated directly below the hotel lobby.
Unlike other large Singapore properties, V Hotel Lavender keeps it simple with just a handful of room types, namely standard, superior and premier, separated only by size and bed configuration. All rooms come with the requisite amenities of flat screen TV’s, tea/coffee, mini bar and in-room safe. The hotel does offer that rare commodity of triple rooms, although the standard doubles are on the small side and views are somewhat restricted. Décor however, is bright and contemporary, making good use of the limited space.
Bars and Restaurants
The ground floor of the hotel is given over to an array of independent food and shopping outlets, generally offering budget-priced casual dining. Kopitiam is a large air-conditioned food court open round the clock serving a wide range of typical hawker food. Other more intimate options with equally eclectic menus include Ananas Café and Kampong 18 restaurant. There are even a couple of artisan cake shops and a fast food burger joint.
For its size, V Hotel has limited leisure amenities on-site, although they are located in a memorable spot. Head up to the Sky Terrace where you can choose to get active or simply laze away the day in the gym or appealing swimming pool. On the sun deck you can catch a welcome breeze and take in the views of the Kalang River from the comfort of a chic cabana. There is also a small business centre and lounge when the need arises to mix business with pleasure.
A key selling point is value for money – few other central Singapore four-star properties can match it for price and the availability of triple rooms will sweeten the deal for families on a budget. The location of V Hotel Lavender may not be to everyone’s taste – it cannot compete with the prestige of Orchard Road or Marina Bay for example, but still offers much to see and do within walking distance and you can hop on a MRT train directly below the lobby.
